I’m Dani Ward,

and I do lots of things.

First week of #inktober.

I didn’t know that #inktober was a thing that was happening until this week. Perhaps something’s just in the air, since I’ve been lettering almost every day so far this month anyway. Here are my offerings for the first week of Inktober!

For all of my lettering thusfar, I’ve been using Pilot Parallel Pens and Prismacolor Premier brush tip markers in my Levenger Circa notebooks on dot grid paper.

Late-night Lettering: Eshet Chayil

A friend has commissioned me to work on some tattoo designs for her. One of them is “eshet chayil,” Hebrew for “woman of valor” and popularized by Rachel Held Evans’ book, A Year of Biblical Womanhood. After a couple of sketches, playing with letterforms, I settled on this style of lettering. Next step: cleaning up the lettering a big digitally, then vectoring! I’ll be making it both a print and providing it “actual size” for tattoo purposes.
